Applications

Model Selection and Dimensions
Select the exact model and performance variant before confirming installation dimensions. Models with the same base designation may have different effective mass and impact velocity ratings.
For the models identified in the dimension tables, the standard designation indicates the version with a cap, while the corresponding -N designation indicates the version without a cap.
All dimensions are in millimeters. Refer to the matching dimension drawing and model table for thread size, overall length, mounting dimensions and cap dimensions.

Product Features
Self-Compensating Hydraulic Damping
The AC series absorbs impact energy through hydraulic resistance, helping moving components decelerate over the available stroke. Self-compensating operation accommodates a defined range of impact conditions within the selected model’s ratings.
Reduced End-of-Travel Impact
Installed at a suitable stopping point, the shock absorber helps reduce the impact transmitted to machine stops, fixtures and supporting structures.
Multiple Stroke Options
The series includes strokes from 5 to 80 mm for different stopping distances and installation spaces. Available energy capacity depends on the specific model and performance variant.
Threaded Body for Installation
External mounting threads allow installation in suitable brackets or mounting holes. Multiple thread sizes support integration into compact mechanisms and larger automation assemblies.
Model Variants for Different Operating Conditions
Selected models offer -1, -2 and -3 variants with different effective mass and impact velocity ratings. This allows selection around the actual motion conditions of the application.
Cap and Without-Cap Options
Selected models are listed with and without a cap, providing options for different contact arrangements and installation requirements.
Applications
Automated Assembly Equipment
Helps cushion moving slides, transfer units and positioning mechanisms as they approach a defined stopping point.
Pneumatic Cylinder Mechanisms
Provides additional external impact absorption where required by the moving load and machine design. Selection should account for cylinder thrust acting during deceleration.
Suitable for evaluating impact control on reciprocating mechanisms, transfer devices and indexing assemblies operating within the selected model’s ratings.
Material Handling Systems
Supports controlled stopping of moving carriers, workpiece transfer mechanisms and handling fixtures.
Robotic Peripheral Equipment
Can be integrated into mechanical stops and auxiliary handling equipment where linear impact absorption is required.
Production Fixtures and Special-Purpose Machines
Provides a compact hydraulic damping option for repetitive motion in assembly fixtures and dedicated automation equipment.

FAQ
What is a self-compensating hydraulic shock absorber?
A self-compensating hydraulic shock absorber uses hydraulic resistance to absorb impact energy and decelerate a moving load. It operates within a specified range of effective mass and impact velocity without requiring a damping setting for each impact.
How do I select the correct AC series model?
Check the required stroke, total energy per cycle, hourly energy load, effective mass, impact velocity and mounting dimensions. Each value must fall within the ratings of the exact model and performance variant.
Is moving mass alone enough to select a shock absorber?
No. Impact velocity, cycle rate and any driving force acting during the stopping stroke also affect selection. Two mechanisms with the same moving mass may require different shock absorbers.
What is the difference between -1, -2 and -3 variants?
The listed variants have different effective mass and impact velocity ratings. Check the complete model designation against its performance table before ordering.
What does the -N suffix mean?
In the dimension tables that identify cap options, -N indicates the version without a cap. Confirm the complete designation and matching drawing for the model being ordered.
Does an AC series shock absorber need a compressed air connection?
The shock absorber uses hydraulic damping and does not require a compressed air connection for its damping function. It may be installed alongside pneumatically driven equipment.
What is the operating temperature range?
The published operating temperature range is −10°C to +80°C. Actual selection should also account for cycle rate, heat buildup and the surrounding installation conditions.
Can I select a model using only its maximum energy per cycle?
No. The hourly energy rating must also be checked. Repeated impacts can exceed the allowable hourly energy load even when each individual impact is below the per-cycle limit.
